Healthcare4Illinois is a people-powered movement dedicated to building a realistic path toward universal healthcare outcomes in Illinois.

Illinois Care starts with a simple belief: this system didn’t just happen, it was built for profit, and it can be re-built by us to put patients first.

For decades, healthcare reform advocates have focused primarily on national solutions. Many of us still support national Medicare for All and believe universal healthcare should ultimately become the law of the land.

But while Washington continues to debate, healthcare costs continue rising, hospitals continue struggling, families continue facing medical debt, and too many people continue delaying care because they cannot afford it.

Illinois Care asks a simple question: What can Illinois do now?

The Illinois Care Initiative is built on two ideas.

First, Illinois should learn from proven successes rather than starting from scratch. The Illinois Care framework draws heavily from Maryland's healthcare reforms and other real-world examples that have already demonstrated measurable results.

Second, healthcare reform should not be designed behind closed doors by lobbyists, consultants, or political insiders alone.

The people who use the healthcare system every day should have a seat at the table:

• Patients.

• Healthcare workers.

• Hospitals.

• Emergency responders.

• Employers.

• Labor organizations.

• Community leaders.

• Policy experts.

• and everyday Illinois residents.

Our immediate goal is straightforward: Encourage Governor JB Pritzker to commit to a transparent, statewide healthcare reform process that includes public forums, stakeholder participation, and open discussion about how Illinois can improve healthcare access, affordability, and system stability.

The current Illinois Care documents are not a final healthcare plan.

• They are a starting point.

• A situation report.

• A foundation for discussion.

• A roadmap for identifying what is possible and how to get there.

Because meaningful reform does not happen when people sit on the sidelines. It happens when people get involved.
